Why do I do this?

I recently saw our repro vet. The first thing she said was “How’s your mom?” It was unsurprising since even on days she didn’t feel well she kept me company on the 2 hrs of driving. I explained we lost my mom in April but that the litters we raised were the best thing I ever could have done for my mom. Those months were, uncoincidentally, the longest stretch of time she had spent not being hospitalized in the entire time she was sick.

On the way home I couldn’t help but reflect on the convo and why I do this. Instagram, the breeding, the fact that i chose to have my life revolve around dogs... Raising pups is A LOT of work but at the same time, seeing them thrive and go on to live wonderful, happy lives with their forever families is an unexplainably great feeling. However, I am admittedly still very new to this and have a lot to learn. I recognize the crew has flaws and I have a growing list of goals to better our lines and practices. I do research constantly to try and make educated decisions to the best of my ability and still every litter is a learning experience. On the other hand, anyone that has followed for some time should know by now that breeding is not my sole purpose for owning 9 Newfoundlands but if I’m going to do it, I want to do it right. I only started this acct because 99% of people I knew personally don’t appreciate daily dog pics as much as I do. It has since turned somewhat bloggish with detailed updates, unfiltered stories and, when the opportunity arises (cough cough, 🥔 ), a way to educate on things they may otherwise never have even thought about. Though many make the bold assumption, I will absolutely never use this as a forum to sell puppies which is why you’ll notice i tend to ignore comments that seem to be heading in that direction. For those that take the time to read, i strive to be honest and allow a view into our lives. Unfortunately, it’s usually those that don’t read that are the first to make judgments but, hey, what can can you do? So, take what you will. I think people sometimes forget that this isn’t necessarily for your entertainment. It’s just me, keeping busy & sharing my furballs with anyone who cares to see them. 🤷‍
